Wellbeing at Work | World Wellbeing Week 2023

June 26th – June 30th is World Wellbeing Week! This is a great time to raise awareness of the importance of wellbeing, particularly in the workplace. With many organisations now also working from home, it is important to encourage and promote health and wellbeing both virtually and in the office.

Here are some ways to improve wellbeing at work.

Have a trained Mental Health First Aider:

This builds an open and supportive culture around mental health in the workplace. Spotting the early signs of a mental health problem can help the individual get the right support at the right time.

Organise and Encourage Social Events.

Organise a team away day or activity! Something as simple as a team breakfast in the office gives employees a chance to catch up and connect, boosting morale. Team building activities encourage employees to connect and collaborate with each other, building stronger relationships.

 Create an Open Door Environment.

Let your team know they can come to you to talk about their mental health and wellbeing. Engage in regular 1-1's to boost employee engagement and build trust with your employees. If your team work from home, host virtual (or in-person) catch-ups to help them feel valued, and reduce the chance of anybody feeling isolated.

Encourage a Healthy Work/Life Balance.

Encourage employees to take regular breaks and use their full annual leave entitlement. Regularly review workload to ensure it is still achievable. Ask for feedback from employees to identify areas for improvement, helping you to implement positive changes. These things can prevent burnout and absenteeism.

What are the benefits of actively improving wellbeing at work?

Positive and meaningful improvements will boost teamwork, employee engagement and reduce stress levels. In turn, this will help create a more resilient workforce, where staff are able to balance their busy lives and thrive at work.
