Top Ten Tips for… Creating a Positive Employee Wellbeing Experience

Employee wellbeing is a crucial factor in creating a positive work environment. When employees feel supported mentally, physically and emotionally, they are more engaged and motivated in their roles.

Fostering a workplace culture that promotes health, balance, and inclusion can create a happier workforce, ultimately leading to more success for both employees and the organisation.

In this article, we cover ten key factors to consider, to enhance employee wellbeing.

   1. Create ergonomic workstations

Offer guidance on proper workstation set ups, including monitor height, keyboard placement, and lighting. Ensure chairs provide lumbar support, to prevent strain. Why not consider investing in adjustable standing desks to allow employees to switch between sitting and standing!

   2. Encourage regular breaks

Short breaks throughout the day help maintain focus and reduce stress. Promote the pomodoro technique, where employees work for 25-50 minutes and then take a short break. Provide relaxation areas with comfortable seating for employees to take a short mental break from their workspace.

   3. Offer mental health support

Provide access to counselling services, whether in-house or through an Employee Assistance Programme. It’s also important to train managers to recognise the signs of burnout, and create a culture where employees feel safe discussing their mental health.

   4. Promote a work/life balance

Establish clear expectations around working hours, to prevent employees feeling pressured to work overtime. Encourage employees to disconnect from work outside of their working hours.

   5. Promote diversity and inclusion

Create a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. Establish zero tolerance policies for discrimination and ensure leadership supports diversity efforts.

   6. Encourage team bonding

Organise team building activities such as lunches, volunteer days, or wellness challenges to promote collaboration. Create informal opportunities for employees to connect with each other, especially if they work remotely.

   7. Celebrate work anniversaries and birthdays

Small gestures such as a thoughtful gift or personalised card show employees they are valued. Celebrate team achievements and milestones regularly, to reinforce a culture of appreciation.
