Looking ahead to 2013
Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Bill will be implemented – Date to be confirmed
The three main aims here are to reform the employment tribunal system, introduce the use of a “protected conversation” which an employer can have with an employee with a view to terminating employment within a settlement agreement and to make changes to the limit on the unfair dismissal compensatory award.
FEBRUARY 2013
Changes to employment award limits – 1st February 2013
The new tribunal award limits will come into force; the limit on the compensatory award for unfair dismissal will be raised to £74,200.
MARCH 2013
Increase in unpaid parental leave – 8th March 2013
The amount of unpaid parental leave will increase from a right to take 13 weeks to 18 weeks.

APRIL 2013
Introduction of employee-shareholder contracts
This will bring a new employment contact into use where employees give up certain employment rights in exchange for shares.
Reduction in collective consultation period – 6th April 2013
Where 100 or more redundancies are proposed, the current 90-day consultation period will be reduced to 45 days.
Increase in maternity, paternity and adoption pay – 7th April 2013
Statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay will increase from £135.45 a week to £136.78 a week.
Increase in sick pay – 6th April 2013
Statutory sick pay will increase from £85.85 a week to £86.70 a week.
MID-2013
Introduction of a fee for lodging an employment tribunal claim
From summer 2013 tribunal claimants will be required to pay a fee when issuing a claim and then a second fee if the claim goes to tribunal.
