cHRysos Celebrates Yorkshire Day!

The 1st August is Yorkshire Day, an annual event to celebrate Yorkshire and commemorate the Battle of Minden. Yorkshire is the largest county in the UK and is also where cHRysos HR Solutions was initially founded!

What is Yorkshire Day?

Yorkshire Day originated as a military holiday. It was first established in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings Society, a group dedicated to preserving the historical boundaries of Yorkshire. It is a day for residents of Yorkshire to come together and showcase what their county has to offer. It was quickly adopted and has grown in significance year after year. Each year, a different town hosts the celebrations. This year it's Rotherham in South Yorkshire.

Nowadays, Yorkshire Day is an opportunity to celebrate and share the county’s beautiful heritage sites and historic monuments, as well as the food and the people!

One ongoing tradition is the reading of the Yorkshire Declaration of Integrity, including by members of The Yorkshire Ridings Society or a recital of Yorkshire dialect.

Why August 1st?

The date holds importance as it commemorates the Battle of Minden and the wearing of roses in the headdress on that day. This date is also the anniversary of emancipation of slaves in the British Empire in 1834, for which a Yorkshire MP (William Wilberforce) campaigned.

cHRysos was founded in Yorkshire!

Yorkshire also holds a very special place in our hearts, as this is where cHRysos was initially founded!

Check out The Yorkshire Society for further information on how and where Yorkshire Day has been celebrated in previous years!
