Read a Book Day | Our Top 3 Picks

The cHRysos Team have been sending in their recommendations to share with you during Read a Book Day. We have selected our Top 3 books from the recommendations, and want to share these with you in more detail.

As we celebrate National Read a Book Day and share some of our favourites, we hope that you find some of these books both helpful and inspiring.

At our number one spot, we have selected "The Study Skills Handbook by Stella Cottrell."

"This was a recommendation to myself a number of years ago and as the new 5th edition have been issued, I have upgraded my copy and regularly refer to it myself.

Whatever, level of studying you are undertaking it can be daunting and this book helps you with practical information and the new edition is split into 2 parts:

A: Self-efficacy: Managing your Success as a Student eg: time management, taking charge of your success etc
AB: Academic, People & Task Management Skills eg: effective reading and note taking, writing essays etc

Most students who have utilised previous editions of this book, find it helps and frequently my colleagues also refer to it.

It is definitely a worthwhile investment and helpful for the workplace!"

The second spot is taken by "Who Moved My Cheese, by Dr. Spencer Johnson."

Why you have chosen this book: "Everyone goes through changes in their lives and people professionals play a key role in managing change. This might be due to changes in either their working or personal life and the impact might be different. This is a beautiful book.

It's easy to follow and this story can help the reader to explore ways to better adapt to change or help others."

What you learnt from reading it? "I read this book a long time ago and it has stayed with me. That is how powerful reading can be. I learnt how impactful story telling can be in terms of learning.

This book helps you to think about how you might embrace change and move forward, using a simple parable about the inevitability of change. I would recommend this book to anyone and all ages."

And at number three, we have chosen "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People By Stephen Covey.

"This book was recommended to me by a friend and colleague some years ago as a highly influential and widely read self-help book. I knew it had received significant praise.

The book is centred around the personal and professional habits, and Covey focuses on building up good habits rather than eliminating bad ones, which I liked.

The book provides guidance on how to take control of your life, make better decisions, manage and improve your relationships with family and friends, boost your productivity, find a healthy work-life balance, and be your happiest self."
